Baden-Baden

The most beautiful casino in the world

Baden-Baden enjoys a wonderful location in the northern foothills of the Black Forest. The casino is legendary and was once described by Marlene Dietrich as "the most beautiful in the world".

The Kurhaus has existed since 1824 and bears the seductive elegant charm of the Belle Époque. Today, as the home of the casino and an event complex, it is the social centre of the city. Three times a year the international racecourse in Iffezheim provides a chance to experience the thrills and suspense of horse-racing. World-class performances in the Festspielhaus opera and concert hall together with the spectacular Museum Frieder Burda bring guests from all over the world into the fashionable city of spa and culture.

The enchanting landscape of the Black Forest and the surrounding vineyards offer destinations galore for excursions. Winding its way for 160 kilometres through the region is the "Badische Weinstrasse". This famous wine route not only produces the grape varieties of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Müller-Thurgau but is also a rich source of asparagus.

Romantic Lake Mummelsee is located on the Black Forest High Road at 1058 metres above sea level and, according to legend, is a nocturnal playground for the king of the lake and his mermaids. The Geroldsauer Falls, where Johannes Brahms and Gustave Courbet used to pause for inspiration, is another exciting location. There's plenty of action on offer from the end of March until the beginning of November at "Europa-Park Rust" with its more than 100 exciting rides and themed shows to take you around the globe.
